Welcome to STANAG 6001 Writing

Build Your English Writing Skills, Step by Step

Course Overview

This course develops your English writing skills aligned with the STANAG 6001 Level 2 standard: the NATO-recognized international assessment for military and professional English writing.

Duration: Self-paced (4 –6 weeks recommended)

Proficiency level: B1+/B2 (Upper-Intermediate)

How the Course is Built

Each Module builds on the last, moving from small units to whole texts:

M1
Simple Sentences — subject, verb, capital letter, period. The foundation.
M2
Combining Sentencescompound (and, but, so), complex (because, when, although), relative clauses (who, which). Vary your writing.
M3
Paragraph Structure — topic sentence, supporting details, conclusion. Group sentences with one main idea.
M4
Cohesion & Register — linking devices (however, furthermore), formal vs informal language. Make your text flow.
M5
Exam Practice Tasks — informal and formal emails, reports. Apply everything.

What You’ll See in The Modules

Reading Lessons
Clear explanations of grammar rules, sentence structures, and writing principles. Read at your own pace. Examples use military and professional contexts — the language you’ll use in real situations.
Interactive Activities
Drag-and-drop, gap-fill, matching, and sequencing tasks. You get instant feedback — if you’re wrong, you see why. These activities help you practice in a safe space before writing on your own. No one grades this — it’s just for you to learn.
✍️ Writing Assignments & AI Feedback
Write real paragraphs and essays following the lesson. Submit your writing and get personalized feedback from the AI STANAG Writing Tutor. The tutor comments on your grammar, structure, vocabulary, and how well you followed the task. You can revise and resubmit. This is your practice ground for STANAG Level 2 success.
Model Texts & Genre Lessons
Real examples of emails, letters, notices, and summaries written by proficient writers. Study how professional English looks in your field. Then write your own version using the same structure.
📊 Quizzes & Self-checks
Short knowledge checks (usually 5–10 questions) at the end of lessons. Use these to confirm you understand the grammar or concept. They don’t count toward a grade — they’re for your learning.

How to Study This Course Solo

You control the pace. Work when it suits you — 30 minutes a day is better than 5 hours once a week.

Step-by-step learning flow:

  1. Read the lesson. Take notes if it helps. Don’t rush — understanding is the goal.
  2. Do the practice activities. Get instant feedback. Repeat until you’re confident.
  3. Read model texts. Study how proficient writers structure their work.
  4. Write your assignment. Follow the model. Use what you learned.
  5. Submit to the AI Tutor. Get personalized feedback. Read it carefully.
  6. Revise (optional but recommended). Fix errors, resubmit, get better feedback. Learning happens in the revision.

📈 Standards & STANAG Level 2

Each writing assignment is graded against the STANAG 6001 Level 2 Writing Descriptors, which assess:

✓ Task Fulfilment Did you answer the question? Did you write the right genre (letter, summary, notice)?
✓ Coherence Is your text organized logically? Does it flow from idea to idea?
✓ Accuracy Is your grammar correct? Do sentences follow English rules?
✓ Register Is your tone right? Formal for a letter, casual for an email?

The AI Tutor scores your writing using these same standards. By the time you finish this course, you’ll know how to reach STANAG Level 2.
